What are the Smurfs
You must think, what are the Smurfs…yes i had this question as strangely enough I didn’t grow up watching these on TV, maybe times have changed for the younger generation. If anyone has said Dexter’s Laboratory or the Power Puff girls that would be home.. Yet, strangely enough, most people know what the Smurfs are. So which category do you fall into ? 
For those that don’t know, the Smurfs are these beautiful tiny blue creatures that live in the forest of a magical realm and they ‘cohabitate’ with an evil wizard by the name of Gargamel and his fat cat side-kick. Their story builds on humor, adventure and fight for survival in this magical realm and there is an addictive song theme where all this blue Smurfs dance and sing along. The Smurfs are actually an interesting discovery after doing some research =)
Is Smurfs Village a scam ?
Through the course of the finding out about the Smurfs I did this. Capcom Interactive recently decided to create Smurfs Village a game based on the above theme and its apparently a Free-to-PLay model, the most common model these days. Everyone loves free games, I mean who doesnt ?
But what is seriously wrong with free games these days ? We all know there are cost involved in development but when you promote and claim that your products are free, and yet consistently hear complaints that people are accidentally buying in-game purchases at insane amounts, it that really ethical? This post expands on this.
Why is this a problem ? Ipads and Iphones are extremely popular with the kiddos, and it is fast becoming a trend that these devices pacify and entertain the kids enough to remove a couple of wrinkles of each parent. Ah yes, dont forget to click on the the $USD100 purchases kids, you cant miss them when everything requires some form of in- game credit!
It is perfect fair to charge for in-game purchases. I myself have done many in-game purchases for those games I play, but these are consented purchases. After Smurfs Village rose to the top 10 grossing apps within slightly over a month of its debut, they have merely added a warning notification ONLY when the game starts for the first time..not even at the purchase page !
Frankly, its sick to think what kind of things people would do to make a profit these days. Well, well done Capcom.. I’m sure everyone will be more careful with any new games coming up from them !
